Compression garments are used in the treatment of Keloid and Hypertrophic scars by applying pressure to the affected area which helps flatten the scaring. Following a burn injury the body produces Collagen which untreated causes a raised often purple/red coloured scar which can become quite hard. Applying pressure garments promotes Collagen maturation which then allows the scar to flatten. Compression garments are used in the treatment of Lymphoedema for various reasons such as a preventative or to maintain limb size. Pressure Gradient garments are designed to exert the greatest degree of pressure at the distal end of limb (ankle/wrist) and decrease the level of compression as you work your way towards the proximal edge of the garment.
